Depression is a Mood Disorder that can ruin anyone’s life; depression can make us have severe weight loss, insomnia, lost of interest in anything around us, feel worthless and even wish we were dead. Depression is a serious problem but even if in many cases, the cause is an imbalance of chemicals in the brain, a lot of the time, depression is caused by the way we program our minds from an early age.

We come to this world and get immerged in a very selfish society, we tend to grow up and survive thinking how to get ahead, how we can be better, faster, smarter, have more, show more, collect more.

A lot of people are depressed just because they spend most of their days comparing what they have with what others have, how they look like in comparison of how others look like. From morning to night, we live in a constant competition with everyone around us, living an exhausted existence that circles over ideas of how to find ways to be better and happier than everyone else.

It has been proven, that one of the best ways to decrease depression is to stop concentrating in ourselves and start helping others. To give enriches the soul, to help aids with the worries; to be selfless cures the unhappiness.

I don’t understand why it is easier for us to look who is better or who has more instead of seeing who has less and might needs some help. Focusing our energy on things outside our own selves can improve our mood and definitely free us from depression. We can all see that in major human disasters, people that lost everything stop self-pity and find energy when they decide to help others that suffered the same tragedy.

As a therapist, I see so many depressed people in counseling; people that are unable to see the blessings in their lives because they focus all their energy to see what is missing, who caused their pain, and what they wish they have. Even people that believe in God are still waiting for God himself to come down and work a miracle in front of them.

The other day, a very spiritual person said something that made a lot of sense: “I personally have never seen God, nor he has come down and perform a miracle in front of my eyes but I know that he has used so many people around me to do so, to help me, to show me miracles do exist.”

Let’s not forget to be a miracle for others lives, to stop complaining about what this negative society says we should have, to feel sorry for ourselves, and let’s be thank full, let’s see miracles, perform miracles, let’s be happy.
